A Whole City’s Worth Of New Art

Ubiki modern art

I’ve added a bunch of new art to my Etsy shop — okay, okay, so not quite a “city’s” worth of new art *grin*, but if you’ve been following along with my blog recently, it’s a little bit different from my past work!

Ubiki modern art

The trio of mini-prints above is called She Always Left The Light On, and is available in 5″x7″ (I’m happy to print 8″x10″ on request). If you look closely, you’ll see different windows lit up in each house and building. When I made these pieces, I was thinking of the special individuals in our lives who stick with us through thick and thin. OR, you can take my mom’s more humorous interpretation: it shows all the lights that me and my dad absent-mindedly leave on around the house. =P

Above is another style that I’ve been playing with, inspired by the rustic Chinese folk art. My parents have often told me about a village in southern China that my ancestors called home, so My Village was created with that in mind (admittedly, the architecture is somewhat European).

Lastly, I’ve also been working on a third series that I call Tall Buildings. It’s all about skyscrapers, highrise apartments and other vertically un-challenged buildings. As with most of my art, these new pieces have a slightly whimsical/retro/modern feel to it (hint: look closely at the flagpoles!).

Anyhoo, I hope you enjoy my latest round of art. It’s been awhile since I’ve been made *anything* but it feels *great* to be putting my creativity to work. I hope you enjoy seeing them as much as I enjoyed making them!

Pictures!

There’s nothing that I like more than getting artwork framed. Little things like a bit of matting or a contrasting frame color or material make a big difference in the artwork itself. It’s kind of like getting to see a piece of art for the first time, over and over again.

Anyhoo, enough babbling =) … I just finished with a series of photos for my latest Popiki series art, framed in 11×14 white wood frames from Target. I hope you enjoy them!

Ubiki is back!

Hello everyone! I have to apologize for my absence the past year; I was preoccupied with other projects and unable to spend time creating art.

However, I made an important decision in February of this year to return to my proverbial roots and focus on Ubiki. I’ve therefore been working hard over the past few months to create new pieces to share with all of you.

First up: Popiki is a re-release of some of my older pieces, except with a much lighter color palette. You may recognize three of them, namely, Flower Eyes, Rice Stalks, and my all-time favorite, Eyeball Plant. Tree of Life (top-right corner) is an all-new print, with crisp, slightly curvy branches and hints of greens, blues and whites:

Interested? My Popiki series is available for sale at my Etsy shop.

There is, of course, MUCH more on the way; new contests, new art, new everything! I’m very excited to be back and look forward to sharing my new artwork with you! =)

Pokemontendo

This is a piece I did tonight for a friend. It’s Gonbe eating a Wiimote. Before I do every piece I sketch it out. I thought it’d be fun to show you just how bad an artist I am without a computer.

It broke

ubiki modern art

I think I broke the internet today. Or, at least my little corner of it. I think the cable modem is defective, or maybe it’s the antenna, or the cable company, or the little internet gremlins that only come out to play while you’re working on something super-duper important. It was a miracle getting this post up at all.

Futzing around with whose-its and whats-its all day is just not my idea of a good time, although I have a pretty decent technical background.

Does anyone else have a love-hate relationship with their technology?

Introducing the Cup collection

ubiki modern art

Alright, so it’s not really going to be called the “cup” collection but at the moment I don’t have any other name. This style is just plain fun to draw and I think I’m going to make quite a few more. I’ve squeezed in a lot of tiny details (not all of which are visible in this picture); it’s kind of like an abstract Where’s Waldo.

New Wee Prints!

My latest Wee Prints are now available. This is a plant-themed collection, with trees, mushrooms and leaves. I hope you like them! =)

In a really strange (but happy) coincidence, these three little buddhas we’ve had in our dining room happened to match the colors of the prints perfectly, which made for great pictures. No, the Buddhas are not for sale. =P

And they’re away

Here are a few of my prints, all sealed and ready to get shipped out. It’s always nice to see so many of them together like that–it’s kinda like a family reunion. Most of them will be going to Joanna at Adorkable Crafts while the others will go to various customers (including our two June contest winners!).

If you look in the upper right corner of that picture above, you’ll see a preview of what I’ve been up to lately *muhahah*. Oh, and a few more Wee Prints on the way, with slightly more complex style that is similar to my vector work on ImageKind.

Dances with Grazing Chickens

Here’s my latest full color print, Dances with Grazing Chickens. It combines two of my favorite prints–Flip the Bird and A New Friend. I’ve also worked in a green hills + blue sky background for those of you that love landscape type art.

PS - Sorry for the bad cellphone picture — I’ll upload a better one tomorrow!

How to be miserable as an artist

how to be a miserable artist

I found this wonderful post on Keri Smith’s website and found it amazingly relevant as a fellow artist. Particularly true is the one about constantly comparing yourself. The family support/validation is *extremely* relevant too!
